Get to Know Nick Reising, Diveristy Chair

How long have you been in fundraising?

I have been in fundraising for over 7 years

When did you join AFP?

I joined AFP 6 years ago starting with AFP- Southern Colorado Chapter. I served on their board of directors for two years before moving back to Wisconsin and joining AFP- NE Wisconsin over one year ago.

Have you even worked in another field (e.g. marketing, sales, finance, etc.)?

I have worked in programming and sales before entering the wonderful world of fundraising.

What superhero skill/trait would you pick?

My superhero skill/trait I would choose is Bravery. All of us get scared or nervous at some point in our lives and I want to make sure that I continue to be brave and inspire others to not be afraid to be their self and keep on their person mission.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken?

I have been blessed to see many parts of our beautiful country along with many European and Mediterranean countries. One of the best was this past summer in Spain. Not matter the language divides, everyone was friendly and had a great time. Also, the food is amazing (plus wine at every meal didn’t hurt…)

What are you most passionate about?

I have been blessed my entire life and I believe in paying it forward. I have had the opportunities to be inspired, to create and build so much, literally and figuratively, and think that everyone should have that opportunity to dream. Not to only believe in what is but what could be. I am passionate about helping people understand their worth and take their beautiful voice to celebrate or represent those who may have been silenced or no voice at all. Together we achieve more and frankly it is more fun to celebrate as a group.

Share two truths and a lie about yourself…

  • As a child I always wanted to be a bus driver because they got to open the door (truth)

  • I have flown a plane even though I am afraid of heights (truth)

  • I know how to play an instrument (lie- I was actually asked to go to choir instead of band because of misbehaving….)

What book do you always recommend to others?

Start with Why by Simon Sinek. This book changed my ways of marketing myself and the missions that I have served over the years.

What is something that may surprise people to know about you?

I have been in a long distance relationship with my amazing girlfriend for 5 years. In those five years, we have lived in the same zip code for 3 months (and that was at the beginning) other than that, the closest is 90 minutes away. She currently is an Audiologist at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
